S 323 is totally unacceptable. There is no amendment that could make this bill acceptable.
It would treat any abortion as a homicide with a 30 year sentence.
It would require rape and incest victims to carry pregnancies to term.
It would prohibit common methods of birth control, and endanger IVF.
It would mean that women would be forced to carry fetuses with no hope of life outside the womb, often fetuses that are likely to die in the uterus threatening the life of the woman.
Everyone deserves to make their own healthcare decisions in conjunction with their family and medical providers. Politicians have no place making medical decisions. The American Medical Association (AMA) has stated that clinical assessments such as viability of the pregnancy and safety of the pregnant person are determinations to be made only by healthcare professionals with their patients. Furthermore, the AMA opposes the imposition of criminal and civil penalties or other retaliatory efforts, including adverse medical licensing actions and the termination of medical liability coverage or clinical privileges against patients, patient advocates, physicians, other healthcare workers, and health systems for receiving, assisting in, referring patients to, or providing reproductive health services.
The Senate Medical Affairs subcommittee is meeting on this egregious bill Tuesday, November 18th at 2 PM in Room 308 of the Gressette Building on the State House grounds. Have your voice heard by calling the committee members listed below. There will be no public testimony allowed at this meeting. However, you will be able to observe the meeting remotely by going to https://scstatehouse.gov then on the right side of the screen search under Senate Meeting Schedule for November 18.
CALL the legislators on the Medical Affairs Subcommittee and urge them to oppose S. 323. Remind this all male committee that everyone deserves to make their own decisions about their health care and their future. Politicians should not interfere with anyone’s medical decisions!
