When it comes to serving your local community and Dorchester County there are a few under the radar opportunities you may have missed. Dorchester County is encouraging local voters to get involved in their government by applying to serve on boards and commissions. Applications are now being accepted so do consider giving your time, energy and knowledge to one of the positions below.

Applications are currently being accepted for the following boards and commissions:
Accommodation Tax Advisory Committee
The committee makes recommendations for the appropriate expenditure on monies received through Accommodation Tax to County Council. This written report is provided to County Council by October 1st of each year to cover estimated and/or actual revenues and proposed expenditures for the prior fiscal year’s monies. The Director of Business Services staffs the committee.
Number of Vacancies: 2 (Hospitality Industry and At-Large Position)
Requirements: Must be a Dorchester County resident.
Length of term: 3 to 4 years
Board of Assessment Appeals
The board hears appeals from the Assessor's valuation of property values.
Number of Vacancies: 1
Requirements: Must be a District 4 resident.
Length of Term: 3 to 4 years
Board of Disabilities and Special Needs
The board provides oversight to the Disabilities Board of Charleston County, which is the administrative, planning and coordinating service delivery body for Dorchester County programs and services for people with developmental disabilities and other special needs funded in whole or in part by the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs.
Number of Vacancies: 2
Requirements: Must be a Dorchester County resident.
Length of term: 1 to 4 years
Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Board of Directors
The board focuses on improving access to community resources and ensuring the very best mental health treatment possible.
Number of Vacancies: 2
Requirements: Must be a Dorchester County resident.
Length of term: 1 to 4 years
