Have you ever considered running for office? This could be your time! We have run the numbers and they are looking very favorable for a Democratic candidate in Dorchester County Council District 3! This seat is currently held by a Republican now running unopposed.
Not sure what district you are in? Go to https://scvotes.gov/voters/, check your voter registration. Then look under Voting District-County Council for your District Number. Number 3 is your lucky number!
What does a County Council do?
Legislative Functions
Enact Laws: Create, amend or repeal local laws
Budget Approval: Review and adopt the county’s budget, ensuring it meets community needs
Land Use Decisions: Vote on zoning and land use issues, impacting community development
Oversight and Administration
Monitor Services: Oversee local public services; including education, public safety and health care; ensuring effectiveness and accountability
Economic Development: Evaluate and approve initiatives that promote local economic growth
Community Engagement
Public Meetings: Hold regular meetings to discuss legislation and gather community input
Constituent Services: Assist residents with local issues and concerns, acting as a bridge between the government and the community
Committee Involvement
Committee Work: Serve on committees that focus on specific areas, such as finance, public safety, or health; allowing for detailed examination of issues before they reach the full council
The council is made up of seven members elected to four-year terms who meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month alternating between:
Willie R. Davis County Council Chambers
201 Johnston Street, St. George 29477
and
Summerville County Council Chambers 500 N. Main Street, Summerville 29483
The candidate-filing period for County Council is between noon, March 16, and noon, March 30.
