Dorchester County Democratic Party Elects New Officers for 2022-2024

The Dorchester County Democratic Party (DCDP) held its 2022 County Party Convention on Saturday, March 19, 2022. The 2022 DCDP officers are the party's youngest and most experienced leadership team elected to date, demonstrating the continued momentum and drive of the Democratic party in South Carolina. The new officers are

  • Chair Jeni Atchley of Ladson

  • 1st Vice-Chair To’mas Stephens of Bowman

  • 2nd Vice-Chair Ilene Davis of Summerville

  • 3rd Vice-Chair Sydney Clinton of North Charleston

  • Executive Committeewoman Debra Whitfield of Summerville

  • Executive Committeeman Travis Williams of Summerville

  • Alternate Executive Committeewoman Barbara Felder of St. George

  • Alternate Executive Committeeman David Rubin of Summerville.

The DCDP focuses on mobilizing voters, recruiting new members for the party, identifying and training candidates for public office for Dorchester County. Incoming Chairperson Jeni Atchley has years of experience in those areas and more, both at the county and state levels. Atchley joined the DCDP in 2010 at the age of 21 and has held positions that include: Executive Committeewoman and 1st Vice-Chair. Atchley also served as 3rd Vice-Chair for the South Carolina Democratic Party and President of the Young Democrats of South Carolina. She is a graduate of the class of 2021 Emerge SC, where she received the Congresswoman Liz Patterson award. Atchley is also a 2016 Congressman James Clyburn Fellow and 2013 New Leaders Council Fellow.

Atchley stated, “I am so thankful to the delegates and members of DCDP for electing me as their Chair for the next two years. I am excited about the work we will accomplish over the next two years. and look forward to working with new officers, county party members, and the Dorchester County community."

This election marks another transition of leadership, outgoing DCDP Chair Tim Lewis stated “I am proud of the work we’ve done together and thankful for the many leaders and volunteers in the Dorchester County Democratic Party over the last two years.” Under Lewis’ leadership, DCDP doubled its membership and transitioned into a bellwether county party. Lewis added, “I congratulate Jeni on her new position as the Chair of the county party and will continue to support her and our Democratic principles.”
